In contrast to nuclear fission, which produces energy by splitting heavy nuclei, fusion combines light nuclei, resulting in a reaction that is intrinsically safer and produces significantly less radioactive byproducts. The primary fusion fuels, such as isotopes of hydrogen extracted from seawater, are widely abundant, enabling a long-term and scalable energy supply.

Furthermore, fusion power generation emits no greenhouse gases during operation and does not generate high-level, long-lived radioactive waste.
